Files that are hard linked to a file in your HCP Anywhere folder

A file in your HCP Anywhere folder can affect a file outside your HCP Anywhere folder if the two files are hard linked. A hard link is a shortcut where one file on your computer is actually pointing to another file on your computer. In this scenario, the following behavior applies:

  • If the file in your HCP Anywhere folder is saved locally to your computer, the file outside your HCP Anywhere folder can be opened and edited normally.
  • If the file in your HCP Anywheree folder is a remote file, the file outside your HCP Anywhere folder also becomes a remote file and cannot be opened or edited.
  • If the file in your HCP Anywhere folder is deleted while it was a remote file, the file outside your HCP Anywhere folder remains a remote file and cannot be opened or edited. In this case, you can delete the file using the Windows command prompt.

Additionally, do not create a hard link to a remote file. This breaks the link.
