When a new version of the HCP Anywhere desktop application is available, the application displays an Update Available status on the application icon. Depending on your HCP Anywhere system, the application may automatically update or you may have to update the application manually.
Important
Do not uninstall the current desktop application and then reinstall an older version of the desktop application. This can cause you to have to reregister the application or prevent the application from functioning properly.
Procedure
- If the desktop application is not running, start the application.
- Right-click the application icon (
) in the taskbar.
- In the menu, click Dashboard.
- Click Settings.
The Settings section of the dashboard appears.
- Click the New Update Ready tab at the top of the dashboard.
The New Update Ready section of the desktop application dashboard appears.
- Click Install Update and then Install. Once finished, click Restart.
Result
If you are upgrading from a pre-3.0 version of the desktop app, note that the current version of the app uses a new concept, remote files, for managing space. The new remote file behavior has a big impact on your desktop application. Remote files do not use space on your computer, but are only available when you are connected to the internet.
Next steps
When you start the desktop app for the first time, all the files and folders in your HCP Anywhere folder are temporarily saved to your computer. You should now choose which files you want to remain on your computer. The next time the desktop application restarts, any file that has not been saved locally becomes a remote file.
For more info on remote and local files, see Saving files locally or keeping them remote.
